Poland’s Mieszko Fortuński Wins the 2025 Predator Austrian Open
St. Johann im Pongau, Austria — In the heart of the Austrian Alps, Mieszko Fortuński claimed his third Euro Tour title, defeating compatriot Wojciech Szewczyk 11–7 in a gripping all-Polish final at the 2025 Predator Austrian Open.
This latest triumph joins Fortuński’s previous victories at the 2016 Italian Open and the 2023 Tampere Open, reinforcing his status as one of the top contenders on the Euro Tour. For Szewczyk, the wait for a first Euro Tour title continues, despite another deep and determined run.
🏆 Fortuński Shows Class Under Pressure
The final remained tight through the early stages, but Fortuński began to pull away midway, taking a commanding 8–4 lead. Szewczyk dug deep, rallying back to 7–9, but Fortuński stayed composed and sealed the match, lifting the gleaming Austrian Open trophy in front of an appreciative crowd in St. Johann.
“I’m feeling amazing,” said Fortuński. “It was a really nice atmosphere to play in front of these people, and I’m very happy. I felt much more confident than in the semi-final, and I think I played better today.”
“It’s never easy playing a friend from the national team. I have full respect for Wojciech. Now it’s an eight-hour drive home—but with this trophy!”
🇵🇱 All-Polish Final Caps Strong Runs
Fortuński stormed into the final with dominant wins over Uğur Turku, a surprise breakout star, and the current Euro Tour No. 1 Stefan Kasper.
Szewczyk, meanwhile, delivered two emotionally and physically taxing wins—first surviving a thrilling 11–10 comeback against Oliver Szolnoki, then holding off Austrian favorite Mario He with an 11–8 semi-final victory.
“Of course, I’d love to win, but I’m happy with second,” said Szewczyk. “I didn’t feel great early in the tournament, but I found a groove as things went on. I gave my best and I’m proud of that. Full credit to Mieszko—he was the better player in the final.”
👑 Women’s Event Heating Up
Earlier on Saturday, the Women’s Predator Austrian Open got underway, with 64 competitors whittled down to the last eight. The quarter-finals begin Sunday at 10:00 AM, culminating in the final at 17:00 local time.
